A rainy spell sitting over the area, with a working SSW breeze and the barometer on the way down. The fish at Rapid Lake are likely to sit near the calm side of the wind. Little to get excited about, though the morning holds a sliver of promise. Fish the best hour hard and keep the rest short.

Rapid Lake lies within the bounds of Sublette County, Wyoming. Elevation runs to 10,335 feet. This is a pocket water of some 11 acres, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. It is one of the smaller waters we list in Sublette County. Start from Lander, 25 miles down the road. Fort Washakie is 25 miles away, with Ethete at 30 miles. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. County-wide records name brook trout, rainbow trout, brown trout and lake trout. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. At Rapid Lake the first feature you find is worth twenty minutes.
Expect July near 51°F and January near 15°F on the long-run figures. The season turns properly here, and fish follow it closely. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near early June. Ice clears near early June and comes back about early November in a typical year. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. On Rapid Lake the same rules apply, with local timing.
Nothing in our records says who may fish here. Public data shows nothing built here, so treat the whole approach as informal. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. State or provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. For a change of water, Clear Lake is 0.7 miles distant. Treat access at Rapid Lake as something to verify.
