A closed sky with even light today, with a whisper of wind from the N and pressure easing off. Whatever swims in Peak Lake should be near structure within a cast of the bank. The day fishes best from night into morning. Fish confidently and change only when the bites stop. Biting air and slow fish: small baits, long pauses.

Look for Peak Lake in Sublette County, Wyoming. What surrounds it is lake country bush. It measures about 31 acres, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. Compared with other Wyoming water on our list, it sits high. Start from Pinedale, 21 miles down the road. Then Fort Washakie, 43 miles, and Marbleton, 46 miles. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
There is no published depth for this one, so start shallow and work out. Points where the flooded channel swings in are the reliable ones. Look for where the old bank line still shows under the surface. Fish documented in Sublette County include brook trout, rainbow trout and brown trout. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. Peak Lake responds to conditions more than to tactics.
July is the warm end of the year here, averaging about 47°F, while January sits near 13°F. Four clear seasons, with a proper winter at one end. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from mid June. The lid tends to go about mid June and return around late October. Early summer and early autumn carry the open-water season. The season on Peak Lake follows the weather closely.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. There is no mapped parking or launch nearby, which keeps numbers down. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. Dale Lake at 0.5 miles is the sensible second choice. Check the position on Peak Lake before loading the car.
