A clear night sky over the water, with flat calm through the day with a firming glass. The water to cover at Lost Lake is reed fringes and open pockets. A broad window opens from night into morning. Take the steady approach over the searching one. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Lost Lake lies in Albany County, in Wyoming. Country round the bank runs to lake country bush. This is a pocket water of some 16 acres, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. By elevation it is in the upper part of our Wyoming listings. The town to know is Saratoga, 28 miles out. Laramie lies 35 miles off, Rawlins another 58 miles. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Across Albany County, recorded fish include brown trout, brook trout, rainbow trout and longnose sucker. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. Work Lost Lake in sections rather than trying to cover it.
July runs about 50°F on average, January about 17°F. A full turn of seasons, with the strongest sport on either side of summer. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly early June. Climate figures give an open season running early June to early November. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. On Lost Lake the same rules apply, with local timing.
Our records carry no access rule either way. A pier or jetty stands 0.9 miles away, which helps on a crowded bank. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. Telephone Lakes, 0.6 miles away, makes the obvious fallback. Confirm access to Lost Lake locally before you travel.
