Not a cloud worth mentioning today, with almost no wind to speak of with pressure dropping. The water to cover at Lake George is sheltered bays and points. Make the night the heart of the trip. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. Cold air keeps the water sluggish; scale everything down.

Lake George lies within the bounds of Sublette County, Wyoming. It sits in rolling bush country. Small at around 22 acres: two anglers spread out cover most of it. For a base, Pinedale sits 15 miles out. Salt Lake City is the closest city, 191 miles away. Within a short run: Coyote Lake some 1.1 miles off, Edmond Lake at 1.1 miles, Cross Lake some 1.2 miles off, Horseshoe Lake at 1.2 miles and Perry Lake some 1.4 miles off. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. County-wide records name brook trout, rainbow trout and brown trout. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. Lake George gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
Averages here run 49°F at the top of summer and 13°F at the bottom of winter. Seasons are distinct, and each one fishes differently. Look for the thaw near early June; the fishing lifts straight after. Break-up sits around early June on average, with the water closing again about early November. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. The season on Lake George rarely departs from it.
No access rule appears in what we hold. We find no slipway, car park or made path within a short radius, so treat access as rough. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. For a change of water, Coyote Lake is 1.1 miles distant. The position on Lake George is worth confirming on the day.
