Sunshine start to finish today, with a light SSW breeze as pressure builds. The fish at Wilson Lake are likely to sit near structure within a cast of the bank. Expect the better fishing from the day. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Set in Douglas County, Wilson Lake is a Wisconsin water. The ground round it is mixed forest. Around 28 acres of surface means several distinct areas to work. Nearest place of any size is Lake Nebagamon, 24 miles away. After that come Hayward at 26 miles and Spooner at 27 miles. Also within reach: Deer Lake about 0.7 miles, Round Lake at 1.4 miles, Person Lake about 1.6 miles, Crystal Lake at 1.7 miles and Scott Lake about 2 miles. No border sits close enough to matter.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Douglas County records list yellow perch, walleye, white sucker and black crappie among the fish reported. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. Treat Wilson Lake as a water to read rather than to cover.
Between January at about 9°F and July at about 68°F, the water has a wide range to work through. The year runs cold to warm and back, with clear transitions. Winter locks it down, and mid April brings it back. Expect the water usable from around mid April until roughly late November. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. Expect Wilson Lake to follow that timing.
No access rule appears in what we hold. There is no mapped parking or launch close by, which usually means walking in. Walleye come to jigs worked slow near bottom, and to trolled crankbaits along the drops at dusk. A phone call first saves an afternoon. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Deer Lake, 0.7 miles away, makes the obvious fallback. Rules at Wilson Lake are worth checking on the day.
