A bright day with hardly any cloud, with a light NW breeze as pressure builds. Give structure within a cast of the bank the first hour at Telstar Lake. The useful hours run afternoon into evening. Trust the forecast and stay out through the window. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Telstar Lake is a Sawyer County water, Wisconsin side. Elevation runs to 1,411 feet. At roughly 16 acres, the whole thing is within casting reach of a single walk. On size it sits at the modest end of our Sawyer County list. The nearest town is Spooner, 17 miles away. After that come Little Round Lake at 17 miles and Shell Lake at 18 miles. You are close to a county edge here; who manages the access can change within a short drive.
Nothing in our records gives a depth for this one. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Fish documented in Sawyer County include walleye, brown trout, largemouth bass and muskellunge. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. On Telstar Lake the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Seasonal averages run from 9°F in January up to 68°F in July. Winter shuts things down for a spell, then spring reopens them fast. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from mid April. Average temperatures cross freezing around mid April in spring and again near late November in autumn. Spring is short and heavy here; autumn is longer and steadier. Telstar Lake runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
Nothing in our records says who may fish here. You can launch from a ramp around half a mile away. There is a jetty half a mile off, worth knowing on a busy day. Overnight stays are possible about half a mile out, where camping is mapped. Where the road in crosses private land, ask first. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Mallard Lake at 0.2 miles is the sensible second choice. For Telstar Lake in particular, ask before you travel.
