Not a cloud worth mentioning today, with a proper ripple driven from the SSW and pressure easing off. Whatever swims in Snort Lake should be near the weed line and any gaps in it. The productive run goes the day. Start on the obvious water and expand from there. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Vilas County in Wisconsin is where Snort Lake sits. Everything around it is lake country bush. Small at around 24 acres: two anglers spread out cover most of it. The bank runs about 0.9 miles all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. For supplies, Lac du Flambeau is 8.5 miles out. Eagle River lies 28 miles off, Wakefield another 29 miles. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Species logged across Vilas County include bluegill, yellow perch and walleye. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. At Snort Lake light and wind decide more than tackle does.
Seasonal averages run from 9°F in January up to 66°F in July. Seasons are distinct, and each one fishes differently. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about mid April. The season between ice runs from about mid April to late November. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. It holds true on Snort Lake more years than not.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Nothing is listed nearby for parking or launching a boat. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Great Corn Lake, 0.6 miles away, makes the obvious fallback. Nothing on Snort Lake should be assumed from this page alone.
