Flat light and a covered sky today, with a busy SSW wind on the open water and pressure on the rise. Start the search at Scout Lake along the seam between weed and open water. The morning is where the day comes good. A careful, quiet approach will out-fish a busy one. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Scout Lake is listed under Manitowoc County, Wisconsin. It lies 892 feet above sea level. Head to Meeme, 4.6 miles away, for anything you forgot. Then Kiel, 5.7 miles, and Howards Grove, 8.1 miles. Within a short drive: Ranger Lake some 0.2 miles off, Cedar Lake out at 0.7 miles, West Lake some 1.4 miles off, Horseshoe Lake out at 1.7 miles and Sy Lake some 2.5 miles off. Rules can differ a short way off, since the county line is near.
The records we hold are silent on depth, so plan to find it yourself. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Across Manitowoc County, recorded fish include brown trout, rainbow trout, common carp and Chinook salmon. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. Fish Scout Lake where the bottom changes rather than where it looks deep.
Expect July to average close to 70°F, with January the cold end at about 17°F. Cold locks it up for a good stretch each year. The freeze runs deep into the year, with break-up near early April. Averages suggest open water from about early April through to roughly early December. The shoulder weeks of the open season are the productive ones. The season on Scout Lake follows the weather closely.
Whether you may fish here is not something records settle. You can leave the car about half a mile from the water. Overnight stays are possible about half a mile out, where camping is mapped. Toilets show in mapping about half a mile away. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Take the rules with you rather than trusting memory. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. Ranger Lake at 0.2 miles is the sensible second choice. Treat Scout Lake as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
