Sunshine start to finish today, with light air out of the SSW with a firming glass. Activity on Sand Bar Lake should centre on bays that hold the day's warmth. The day fishes best from the day. Pick two or three spots and rotate them. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Sand Bar Lake is set in Douglas County, Wisconsin. The surface lies 1,158 feet up. Surface area is around 127 acres, which gives you real water without needing a boat. On our Douglas County list it sits near the top for size. Head to Lake Nebagamon, 13 miles away, for anything you forgot. Hayward follows at 25 miles, then Little Round Lake at 29 miles. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Species logged across Douglas County include yellow perch, walleye, white sucker, black crappie and rainbow smelt. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. Read Sand Bar Lake before you fish it and the day goes better.
The range across the year is 8°F to 67°F. The year splits cleanly: hard water, then open water. The lid usually goes in mid April, which opens the strongest weeks of the year. The season between ice runs from about mid April to late November. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. Sand Bar Lake runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
Our records carry no access rule either way. Formal access is not mapped, so the last stretch is likely on foot. Walleye come to jigs worked slow near bottom, and to trolled crankbaits along the drops at dusk. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Tomahawk Lake, 0.4 miles away, makes the obvious fallback. Nothing here settles the position at Sand Bar Lake for certain.
