A cloudless sky and strong light today, with an easy breeze from the S with a settled glass. Expect most activity at Mud Lake around the weed line and any gaps in it. The day fishes best from night into morning. Fish confidently and change only when the bites stop. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Mud Lake is one of the Ozaukee County waters in Wisconsin. Elevation runs to 860 feet. At about 163 acres, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. The full circuit measures close to 1.8 miles on foot. By elevation it sits in the lower part of our Wisconsin listings. Nearest town is Saukville, 4 miles off. Newburg lies 4.2 miles off, Grafton another 5.1 miles. The county line runs close by, so rules can change within a short drive.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Reported across Ozaukee County: common carp, green sunfish and fantail darter. County records show the wider picture rather than this one place. Mud Lake gives up more to patience than to distance.
Typical July readings run about 70°F; by January the average is down near 18°F. The season turns properly here, and fish follow it closely. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near early April. Expect the water usable from around early April until roughly early December. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. Mud Lake runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
The paperwork position is blank for this one. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. There is a slipway on the shore, half a mile from the water we list. Recorded parking is half a mile off, far enough to travel light. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Hawthorn Lake sits 1.6 miles off and takes the overflow.
