Sunshine start to finish today, with flat calm through the day and the barometer on the way down. On Lawler Lake, work bays that hold the day's warmth first. The strongest window runs from the day. Stay mobile and follow the activity. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Lawler Lake stands in Vilas County, Wisconsin. The setting is pine and birch on every side. The water covers some 30 acres, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. It is high ground by Wisconsin standards. Some 12 miles away sits Eagle River, the nearest settlement. Then Iron River, 28 miles, and Stambaugh, Iron River, 29 miles. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
Depth is unmeasured here, so let the shoreline guide you. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Survey and observation records for Vilas County include bluegill, yellow perch, walleye, largemouth bass and rock bass. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. At Lawler Lake the water rewards a slow, careful approach.
Climate normals give 65°F for July and 9°F for January. Winter shuts things down for a spell, then spring reopens them fast. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about late April. Expect the water usable from around late April until roughly late November. Look to early summer and the first cool weeks of autumn. On Lawler Lake the same rules apply, with local timing.
Public data does not answer the access question here. Reserve land runs up to the bank here, so read the notices. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Should this one be busy, Denton Lake is 0.7 miles off. For Lawler Lake, the notice at the access point is the final word.
