Drifting cloud with decent bright gaps, with a persistent wind from the NW and no real change in pressure. Whatever swims in Lake Laura should be near reed fringes and open pockets. The strongest window is the middle of the day. Start on the obvious water and expand from there. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Lake Laura lies in Vilas County, in Wisconsin. The bank gives way to pine and birch. It measures some 592 acres, and wind has room to build across it. Around 4.4 miles of bank, which is a long day on foot. It ranks high for size among our Vilas County listings. For a base, Eagle River sits 13 miles out. It is 127 miles to Green Bay, the nearest city. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Across Vilas County, recorded fish include bluegill, yellow perch, walleye and largemouth bass. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. The near bank of Lake Laura is often the one people ignore.
July runs about 65°F on average, January about 9°F. A full turn of seasons, with the strongest sport on either side of summer. Break-up comes around late April, and the run that follows is short and strong. On the long-run averages the water opens up around late April and starts locking again about late November. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. Plan any trip to Lake Laura around it.
Whether you may fish here is not something records settle. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Formal access is not mapped, so the last stretch is likely on foot. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. The nearest alternative is Lake Salsich, 1.2 miles out. Check the position at Lake Laura before loading the car.
