A wide-open sky and strong sun today, with almost no wind to speak of and pressure leaking away. On Coburn Lake, work the seam between weed and open water first. A long productive spell runs night into morning. Make the first hour count and build on it. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Wisconsin holds Coburn Lake, in Bayfield County. The bank is 1,371 feet above sea level. Small at around 6 acres: two anglers spread out cover most of it. It is a small entry by Bayfield County standards. The closest town, Little Round Lake, is 24 miles away. Hayward lies 24 miles off, Ashland another 25 miles. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Species logged across Bayfield County include rainbow smelt, brown trout and yellow perch. The county list is broader than any single water. Anyone new to Coburn Lake should walk it once before setting up.
Seasonal averages run from 9°F in January up to 66°F in July. The year splits cleanly: hard water, then open water. Ice-out usually falls in mid April, and the weeks after it fish hardest. From about mid April to around late November, expect open water on the long-run figures. The shoulder weeks of the open season are the productive ones. Coburn Lake runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. No launch point is recorded nearby, so this is a bank water unless you carry a boat in. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. Porcupine Lake sits 0.4 miles off and takes the overflow. Treat access at Coburn Lake as something to verify.
