Bright, clear skies over the water today, with steady pressure of wind from the SSW with the glass slipping lower. Expect most activity at Bills Lake around the margins and the shelf beyond them. Plan around the stretch from night into morning. Keep moving until you find them. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

The Vilas County entry here is Bills Lake, in Wisconsin. It lies 1,591 feet above sea level. With some 70 acres of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. Shoreline comes to about 1.7 miles, small enough to learn in a day. Lac du Flambeau sits 4.8 miles from here and is the nearest stop. Park Falls is 22 miles and Phillips 26 miles. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Vilas County records list bluegill, yellow perch, walleye, largemouth bass and rock bass among the fish reported. County data is a starting point rather than a guarantee. Bills Lake gives up more to patience than to distance.
The seasonal spread runs 9°F to 66°F. Winter puts a hard lid on this one. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about mid April. Climate averages put the opening at about mid April and the closing near late November. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. Expect Bills Lake to follow that timing.
Public data does not answer the access question here. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Nothing formal is recorded here: no ramp, no car park, no marked path. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Season dates differ by species, so read the table. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. Mitten Lake at 1 mile is the sensible second choice. None of that is settled for Bills Lake in what we hold.
