Bright, clear skies over the water today, with a working NW breeze with a settled glass. Most of the action on Big Lake should come off the shaded margin through bright spells. The numbers single out the middle of the day. Settle in and let the day develop. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Big Lake lies in Gogebic County, Michigan. The ground round it is mixed forest. At 790 acres this is proper open water rather than a pond. It is among the larger waters listed here for Gogebic County. The nearest place of any size is Eagle River, 22 miles away. Green Bay is the closest city, 135 miles away. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Fish documented in Gogebic County include bluegill, yellow perch, walleye and largemouth bass. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. On Big Lake the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Averages move between 9°F in January and 65°F in July. Four clear seasons, with a proper winter at one end. Winter fishing happens on the ice here, with open water back around late April. From about late April to around late November, expect open water on the long-run figures. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. That is the shape of the year on Big Lake.
We have no record of the rules that apply on this bank. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. For a change of water, Deerpath Lake is 0.8 miles distant. For Big Lake, the notice at the access point is the final word.
