Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with a light S breeze and a falling glass. Fish at Belding Lake should hold close to the first drop-off and weed lines. The strongest window runs from the day. Stay mobile and follow the activity. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Look for Belding Lake in the Iron County part of Wisconsin. The surface lies 1,608 feet up. At 7 acres it is the sort of place you fish for an evening rather than a day. On size it sits at the modest end of our Iron County list. Supplies mean a trip to Lac du Flambeau, 15 miles off. Then Wakefield, 21 miles, and Ironwood, 21 miles. The boundary is near enough that local access rules are worth double-checking.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Iron County records list walleye, northern pike, yellow perch, muskellunge and rainbow trout among the fish reported. Take it as the county picture rather than a promise for this water. Belding Lake responds to conditions more than to tactics.
On the long-term average, July reads 65°F and January reads 10°F. Winter closes the water for a while, and the reopening is worth catching. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough mid April. Averages suggest open water from about mid April through to roughly late November. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. Plan around that when you fish Belding Lake.
No public source sets out the position on this bank. We find no slipway, car park or made path within a short radius, so treat access as rough. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Rules for this water may differ from the county norm. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. For a change of water, Tamarack Lake is 0.8 miles distant. Ask locally about Belding Lake if anything is unclear.
