Wet weather working through today, with a whisper of wind from the NE and pressure easing off. Expect most activity at Trout Pond around the shaded bank through the bright hours. Everything points to the night. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

West Virginia holds Trout Pond, in Hardy County. This is rolling hill country. This is a tiny water, and one quiet approach covers all of it. Basye is the closest town at 11 miles. Edinburg is 13 miles away, with Woodstock at 13 miles. Also within reach: Rockcliff Lake about 0.3 miles, Woodstock Reservoir roughly 4.9 miles, Lake Carroll about 9.8 miles, Lake Laura roughly 11 miles and Stony Creek about 14 miles. A border sits close enough to be relevant to the paperwork.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Hardy County records list bluegill, brook trout, fantail darter, margined madtom and bluntnose minnow among the fish reported. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. On Trout Pond that means starting tight and working out.
July runs about 70°F on average, January about 29°F. Seasons here are moderate, and the fishing runs most of the year. It should never be assumed safe, whatever the month says. Late winter often fishes better here than midsummer does. Time your trip to Trout Pond by conditions rather than dates.
The access position is unclear from public sources. There is a slipway on the shore, half a mile from the water we list. Parking is close: a car park sits 170 yards from the bank. A campsite lies half a mile away for anyone staying over. Toilets are 100 yards away, which matters on a long session. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. Rockcliff Lake sits 0.3 miles off and takes the overflow. Signs at Trout Pond carry more weight than any list.
