Solid cloud cover today, with the water lying quiet with a firming glass. Activity on Round Lake should centre on shallow cover and weed edges. A broad window opens from night into morning. Commit to the pattern once the first fish shows. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

The Yakima County entry here is Round Lake, in Washington. Beyond the shoreline you have dry rangeland. This is a pocket water of some 18 acres, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. Supplies mean a trip to Mabton, 0.8 miles off. Grandview is 5.2 miles away, with Sunnyside at 6.8 miles. The boundary is near enough that local access rules are worth double-checking.
No chart reached our records; the first cast is your sounding. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Open biodiversity records for Yakima County list rainbow trout, pumpkinseed and mountain whitefish. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. Treat Round Lake as a water to read rather than to cover.
Averages here run 72°F at the top of summer and 32°F at the bottom of winter. In milder years the surface never sets. It is not guaranteed from one year to the next. February into May fishes hardest as the water warms. It holds true on Round Lake more years than not. After a storm, the water clears from the edges inwards.
No access rule appears in what we hold. Mabton Bridge Boat Launch sits about half a mile away and carries the launch. The closest car park is half a mile away, so pack accordingly. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Cockleburr Lake sits 0.4 miles off and takes the overflow. Check the position at Round Lake before loading the car.
