A grey, even sky over the water, with a faint SE drift as pressure slides. Whatever swims in Rainy Lake should be near the shaded margin through bright spells. The day fishes best from night into morning. Fish confidently and change only when the bites stop. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Look for Rainy Lake in the Okanogan County part of Washington. The country here is mixed forest. Surface area is around 55 acres, which gives you real water without needing a boat. A shoreline of some 1.0 miles keeps the choices simple. On our Okanogan County list it sits near the top for size. The town to know is Darrington, 43 miles out. Beyond it, Granite Falls at 49 miles and Manson at 50 miles. No border sits close enough to matter.
Nothing in our records gives a depth for this one. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. County-wide records name rainbow trout, largemouth bass, sockeye salmon and yellow perch. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. Fish Rainy Lake to its features, not to its size.
Averages here run 54°F at the top of summer and 18°F at the bottom of winter. A solid cap is the normal state through winter. The lid usually goes in early May, which opens the strongest weeks of the year. Climate figures give an open season running early May to mid November. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. It holds true on Rainy Lake more years than not.
We have no record of the rules that apply on this bank. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. No made access appears within a short radius, so plan to park on a verge and walk. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. For a change of water, Ann Lake is 1 mile distant. Treat Rainy Lake as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
