Passing showers with dry spells between, with the water lying quiet with a firming glass. The water to cover at Mud Lake is the weed line and any gaps in it. The day holds up well from the day. Work the productive water thoroughly. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

The King County end of Washington holds Mud Lake. What surrounds it is open valley. The water measures roughly 18 acres, so nothing here is far from anything else. Carnation is the closest place, 8 miles off. Then Lake Marcel-Stillwater, 8.3 miles, and Fall City, 9.4 miles. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
Depth went unrecorded, which puts the reading back on you. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Species logged across King County include Chum salmon, Coho salmon, Chinook salmon, sockeye salmon and yellow perch. Protected fish appear in the records for this area, so treat the list as information, not an invitation. Mud Lake gives up more to patience than to distance.
Typical August readings run about 61°F; by December the average is down near 35°F. Some winters cap it and some do not. Some winters give nothing at all, so plan for open water. Autumn steadies things again once the heat lets go. Mud Lake runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
Public sources are silent on who controls the bank. Mapping flags this water as intermittent: it can be dry for part of the year, so check before travelling. Nothing is mapped in the way of a ramp or car park within a short radius. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. Should this one be busy, Black Lake is 1.2 miles off. For Mud Lake in particular, ask before you travel.
