An even grey lid over the water, with a light chop building from the S with the glass on the way up. Whatever swims in Lone Lake should be near reed fringes and open pockets. The strongest window is the middle of the day. Start on the obvious water and expand from there. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

Lone Lake sits within Island County in Washington. Tidal water begins 2.2 miles from here. It runs to roughly 90 acres — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. A shoreline of some 1.3 miles keeps the choices simple. It is low-lying compared with other Washington water we list. Nearest place of any size is Langley, 2.9 miles away. Beyond it, Freeland at 3 miles and Tulalip Bay at 7.1 miles. This one sits near enough to a boundary to be worth checking.
The records we hold are silent on depth, so plan to find it yourself. Work the tide here — moving water feeds, slack water rests. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Survey and observation records for Island County include Coho salmon, rainbow trout, Chinook salmon and Dolly Varden. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. Lone Lake gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
Temperature averages peak at 62°F in August and bottom out at 40°F in December. Whether it freezes depends on the year. In a normal year the cover is thin and short-lived. Spring and autumn carry the year; summer squeezes it into the ends of the day. Expect Lone Lake to follow that timing.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. A boat ramp sits about half a mile from the water. A car park sits roughly half a mile away. There is a toilet block some half a mile out. Where the road in crosses private land, ask first. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Failing this one, try Lake Goss, 1.4 miles away. Where Lone Lake is concerned, a local answer beats a written one.
