A bright day with hardly any cloud, with air barely moving and the barometer on the way down. Expect most activity at Eunice Lake around structure within a cast of the bank. Plan around the stretch from night into morning. Keep moving until you find them. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

Look for Eunice Lake in the Skamania County part of Washington. It sits at 4,334 feet above sea level. It covers about 5 acres, so this is small water you can walk round in under an hour. Carson at 19 miles is the nearest place to stop. Further out sit Stevenson (22 miles) and Cascade Locks (23 miles). The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
Depth went unrecorded, which puts the reading back on you. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Reported across Skamania County: Chinook salmon, Coho salmon, rainbow trout, cutthroat trout and largemouth bass. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. Eunice Lake gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
August is the warm end of the year here, averaging about 56°F, while January sits near 28°F. The calendar is generous: something works in nearly every month. It should never be assumed safe, whatever the month says. The cooler months are the comfortable ones to fish here. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Eunice Lake.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. Recorded parking is half a mile off, far enough to travel light. Overnight stays are possible half a mile away. There are toilets half a mile off. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. Failing this one, try Heather Lake, 0.1 miles away. Check the position on Eunice Lake before loading the car.
