A grey, even sky over the water, with the surface near flat as pressure builds. The water to cover at Copper Lake is points where shallow meets deep. The day fishes best from the day. Fish confidently and change only when the bites stop. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Look for Copper Lake in King County, Washington. The bank is 3,953 feet above sea level. At about 133 acres, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. About 1.7 miles of bank, so nothing stays unexplored for long. Few waters listed in King County are bigger. Head to Tanner, 21 miles away, for anything you forgot. Riverbend is 22 miles away, with North Bend at 22 miles. Rules here are straightforward: one county, one set of rules.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Survey and observation records for King County include Chum salmon, Coho salmon and Chinook salmon. Protected fish appear in the records for this area, so treat the list as information, not an invitation. On Copper Lake the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Expect August near 58°F and December near 27°F on the long-run figures. Neither winter nor summer shuts things down for long. In a normal year the cover is thin and short-lived. The hot months push the fishing to dawn and dusk. Copper Lake runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. There is a campsite half a mile from the water. There is a toilet block some half a mile out. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. Lake Malachite, 0.6 miles away, makes the obvious fallback. Check the position on Copper Lake before loading the car.
