A wet system passing over today, with stillness over the whole water with the glass on the way up. The water to cover at Bear Lake is the margins and the shelf beyond them. Expect the better fishing from night into morning. Give the likely spots time before moving. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Bear Lake is one of the King County waters in Washington. Elevation runs to 3,602 feet. Roughly 47 acres: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. On our King County list it sits near the top for size. Supplies mean a trip to Tanner, 18 miles off. The big place round here is Bellevue, 38 miles distant. The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. King County records list Chum salmon, Coho salmon and Chinook salmon among the fish reported. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. Bear Lake fishes better once you know its edges.
In an average year August sits at 57°F and December at 26°F. The calendar is generous: something works in nearly every month. In a normal year the cover is thin and short-lived. The cooler months are the comfortable ones to fish here. Plan around that when you fish Bear Lake. Long daylight spreads fish out; short daylight concentrates them.
Public data does not answer the access question here. A campsite is mapped about half a mile away, which makes an early start easier. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Deer Lake, 0.3 miles away, makes the obvious fallback. None of that is settled for Bear Lake in what we hold.
