Heavy overcast holding through the day, with hardly a ripple anywhere and a rising glass. Most of the action on Turtle Pond should come off any feature that breaks the open water. The best of it runs the day. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Within Estrie, Quebec, you have Turtle Pond. The water sits 436 metres up. It runs to roughly 10 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. There is roughly 1.3 km of shoreline here, which is a short walk end to end. The closest town, Stanstead, is 14 km distant. For a city, Sherbrooke is 45 km off. This one sits near enough to a boundary to be worth checking.
Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Survey and observation records for Estrie include rainbow trout, white sucker and pumpkinseed. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. On Turtle Pond a short move beats a long cast.
Averages here run 18°C at the top of summer and -11°C at the bottom of winter. Spring and autumn carry the fishing; summer and winter test it. Winter fishing happens on the ice here, with open water back around late April. In an average year the thaw lands around late April and the freeze near early December. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Turtle Pond.
Whether you may fish here is not something records settle. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Fishing Access Road provides a boat ramp about 1.3 km away. The car has to stay 1.2 km away, which shapes how much tackle you bring. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Ask in the nearest town if you are unsure. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. Holland Pond, 1 km away, makes the obvious fallback. None of that is settled for Turtle Pond in what we hold.
