No cloud to trap the day's warmth tonight, with hardly a ripple anywhere with a softening glass. Activity on Harriman Reservoir should centre on the mouths of the creek arms. The best of it runs the day. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Set in Windham County, Vermont, this is Harriman Reservoir. It sits at 1,470 feet above sea level. At 3.0 sq miles this is proper open water rather than a pond. By surface area it heads our Windham County listings. The nearest town is Charlemont, 11 miles away. Beyond it, Dover at 11 miles and North Adams at 13 miles. The boundary is near enough that local access rules are worth double-checking.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. Points where the flooded channel swings in are the reliable ones. The old creek line under the surface is the feature worth finding. County-wide records name brook trout, white sucker and brown trout. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. Harriman Reservoir repays a walk before the first cast.
Between January at about 18°F and July at about 66°F, the water has a wide range to work through. Cold locks it up for a good stretch each year. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from mid April. Open water usually runs from mid April until about early December. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. Anyone fishing Harriman Reservoir regularly works to that calendar.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. The map shows no ramp or car park nearby, so this is a walk-in water. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Clara Lake at 0.7 miles is the sensible second choice. None of that is settled for Harriman Reservoir in what we hold.
