Solid cloud cover today, with an easy breeze from the NW with a firming glass. Activity on White Pine Lake should centre on windblown banks where food collects. Expect the better fishing from the day. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. The cold puts a premium on the calmest, deepest water.

White Pine Lake is set in Salt Lake County, Utah. The land about it is lake country bush. This is a pocket water of some 12 acres, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. Granite is the closest place, 7 miles off. The big place round here is West Jordan, 14 miles distant. A border sits close enough to be relevant to the paperwork.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. Inflow corners move water, and moving water gathers fish. Held water runs deepest at the wall and shallows back to the inflow. Salt Lake County records list rainbow trout, black-spotted cutthroat trout and brown trout among the fish reported. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. At White Pine Lake light and wind decide more than tackle does.
Between December at about 21°F and July at about 59°F, the water has a wide range to work through. Winter shuts the surface down for months. Expect a solid lid for months and a thaw around early May. Break-up near early May, freeze-up near mid November: that is the shape of an average year. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. On White Pine Lake the same rules apply, with local timing.
No access rule appears in what we hold. Access is unmapped, which usually means a farm track and a walk. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. A phone call first saves an afternoon. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. Should this one be busy, Red Pine Lake is 0.7 miles off. Confirm before you fish White Pine Lake.
