Dull, settled light over the water, with dead-still conditions and the barometer on the way down. The fish at Long Lake are likely to sit near windblown banks where food collects. The strongest window runs from morning through afternoon. Stay mobile and follow the activity. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Long Lake is one of the Wasatch County waters in Utah. It sits in pine and birch country. With some 43 acres of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. The edge runs 1.2 miles or so, easy to work in an afternoon. Few waters listed in Wasatch County are bigger. You are 15 miles from Kamas. It is 47 miles to Provo, the nearest city. The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. A reservoir gives you a hard edge, a shelf, and not much else. The arms fish better than the open middle whenever the water is up. Survey and observation records for Wasatch County include brown trout, rainbow trout, brook trout and black-spotted cutthroat trout. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. Long Lake fishes better once you know its edges.
Long-run averages give July about 55°F and December about 19°F. A hard winter is normal, and the thaw brings a strong few weeks. Once it clears, about late May, the fishing comes on quickly. Expect the water usable from around late May until roughly mid November. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. At Long Lake the season follows that pattern closely.
No access rule appears in what we hold. You can camp 0.9 miles off, which suits an early start. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Ask in the nearest town if you are unsure. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. Weir Reservoir at 0.7 miles is the sensible second choice. Where Long Lake is concerned, a local answer beats a written one.
