Dull, settled light over the water, with just enough NNW wind to ripple the surface and pressure on the rise. The fish at Lake Solitude are likely to sit near any hard bottom among the soft. A long productive spell runs afternoon into evening. Make the first hour count and build on it. Biting air and slow fish: small baits, long pauses.

Lake Solitude falls in Salt Lake County, part of Utah. Height above sea level is 9,062 feet. At 3 acres it is the sort of place you fish for an evening rather than a day. The closest town, Park City, is 6.1 miles distant. Snyderville is 6.9 miles and Midway 9.1 miles. Two sets of local rules meet not far from this water. Within 15 miles there are over twenty; within 30 miles, dozens.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. The arms fish better than the open middle whenever the water is up. Rip-rap along the wall holds fish that the open bank never does. County-wide records name rainbow trout, black-spotted cutthroat trout and brown trout. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. On Lake Solitude a short move beats a long cast.
Expect July to average close to 58°F, with December the cold end at about 21°F. Expect a real winter and a strong spring after it. Ice-out usually falls in early May, and the weeks after it fish hardest. On average, early May opens the water and mid November closes it again. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. It holds true on Lake Solitude more years than not.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. Mapping shows a campsite some 0.9 miles from the water. A picnic site half a mile off makes this workable with family in tow. Facilities run to toilets half a mile from the water. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Twin Lakes Reservoir at 0.4 miles is the sensible second choice. Nothing here settles the position at Lake Solitude for certain.
