Not a cloud worth mentioning today, with mild air moving in from the NE and pressure on the rise. Give the shaded margin through bright spells the first hour at Young Lake. The best of it runs morning through afternoon. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. A heavy, hot day; the coolest water wins.

Young Lake stands in Smith County, Texas. The surface lies 430 feet up. The water measures roughly 17 acres, so nothing here is far from anything else. For supplies, Liberty City is 9.6 miles out. Tyler sits 12 miles out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. Also on the doorstep: Pineland Lake 1.1 miles away, Potter Lake at 2.2 miles, Howell Club Lake 2.4 miles away, Fernwood Lake at 2.7 miles and Hamrick Lake 3 miles away. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. The arms fish better than the open middle whenever the water is up. Draw-down through summer strips the margins, so follow the water out. Species logged nearby in open biodiversity records include black bullhead, dollar sunfish and yellow bullhead. That is what has been logged nearby, not a stocking list, so check local rules before you plan around any one species. Young Lake fishes better once you know its edges.
Long-term averages put July at about 82°F and January near 45°F. No part of the year shuts this water. The cooler months are the comfortable ones to be out. Spring and autumn carry the year; summer squeezes it into the ends of the day. Young Lake runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
Our records carry no access rule either way. Nothing in the way of made access shows up nearby: no ramp, no car park, no path. Catfish want bait on the bottom: cut bait or worms, a simple running rig, and patience after dark. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Should this one be busy, Pineland Lake is 1.1 miles off. Ask locally about Young Lake if anything is unclear.
