Heavy overcast holding through the day, with a whisper of wind from the SSE with a softening glass. On Soil Conservation Service Site 9 Reservoir, work the mouths of the creek arms first. The day holds up well from morning through afternoon. Work the productive water thoroughly. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

The Jack County end of Texas holds Soil Conservation Service Site 9 Reservoir. It stands 1,007 feet above sea level. This is a pocket water of some 14 acres, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. Jacksboro lies 12 miles from the water. Chico follows at 12 miles, then Runaway Bay at 14 miles. The county line runs close by, so rules can change within a short drive.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. The arms fish better than the open middle whenever the water is up. Rip-rap along the wall holds fish that the open bank never does. Fish reported in the area, according to open records, include blue catfish and white bass. It is a record of sightings and surveys, so use it as a guide. On this water the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
Climate records put July near 83°F and January near 42°F. Summer heat is the limit here, not winter cold. Shade and hour of day matter more than month. March through May is the strongest run, with October and November a second stretch. The season on this water rarely departs from it.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Nothing is mapped in the way of a ramp or car park within a short radius. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Season dates differ by species, so read the table. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Soil Conservation Service Site 11 Reservoir sits 0.8 miles off and takes the overflow. Confirm before you fish this water.
