Flat light and a covered sky today, with a whisper of wind from the NE with the glass slipping lower. Start the search at Sand Lake along sheltered bays and points. The day holds up well from morning through afternoon. Work the productive water thoroughly. Fish before the heat builds or after it breaks.

Look for Sand Lake in the Anderson County part of Texas. The water sits 259 feet up. The water measures roughly 9 acres, so nothing here is far from anything else. Palestine is the closest place, 16 miles off. Fairfield follows at 19 miles, then Malakoff at 23 miles. The nearest boundary is a fair way off. There is room enough here for more than one party without crowding.
We hold no depth figure for this one. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Records collected within a few miles name Rio Grande longear sunfish, bluegill, dusky darter and redfin pickerel. Take it as evidence of what swims here, not a promise for one session. The shape of Sand Lake rewards a slow walk along one bank.
Between January at about 46°F and July at about 83°F, the water has a wide range to work through. Winter here means light layers, not lost months. Heat pushes fish deep from June onwards, so start early. Autumn steadies things again once the heat lets go. On Sand Lake the same rules apply, with local timing.
Whether you may fish here is not something records settle. Nothing built is recorded close to the bank here. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Season dates differ by species, so read the table. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. Soil Conservation Service Site 1 Reservoir at 4.5 miles is the sensible second choice. Treat Sand Lake as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
