Dull, settled light over the water, with a gentle ripple from the ENE with a firming glass. The productive water at Red Lake will be around the shaded margin through bright spells. The day holds up well from night into morning. Work the productive water thoroughly. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

You will find Red Lake in Howard County, Texas. Beyond the shoreline you have open plain. With some 124 acres of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. Around 2.4 miles of margin, front to back. It sits higher than most water we list in Texas. Nearest town is Stanton, 13 miles off. Midland is the closest city, 30 miles away. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Open occurrence data for the surrounding area lists gizzard shad. Reported species tell you what lives around here, nothing more. On Red Lake the first feature you find is usually worth a session.
The seasonal spread runs 42°F to 82°F. Cold never closes this one. Late winter and spring fish steadiest here. February into May fishes hardest as the water warms. Red Lake fishes to that pattern most years. The hour either side of first light is rarely wasted. Cloud cover is worth more than temperature on a bright week.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Nothing is listed nearby for parking or launching a boat. A light spinning outfit with a small box of lures and some bait covers most of what swims here. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. If the gate is shut, Natural Dam Lake at 6.8 miles is the nearest alternative. Check the position at Red Lake before loading the car.
