An even grey lid over the water, with calm air over the water as pressure builds. The fish at Lake Center are likely to sit near the calm side of the wind. The day holds up well from night into morning. Work the productive water thoroughly. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Lake Center lies within the bounds of Shelby County, Texas. It lies 262 feet above sea level. It runs to roughly 89 acres — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. The edge runs 1.6 miles or so, easy to work in an afternoon. It is among the larger waters listed here for Shelby County. The closest town, Center, is 4.3 miles distant. It is 60 miles to Shreveport, the nearest city. No boundary runs near, so the county rules hold throughout.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. Inflow corners move water, and moving water gathers fish. Points where the flooded channel swings in are the reliable ones. At Lake Center the first feature you find is worth twenty minutes. Deeper water next to shallow is more useful than either on its own.
The year swings from about 46°F in January to roughly 82°F in July. The awkward stretch is midsummer, not midwinter. Late winter and spring fish steadiest here. March through May is the strongest run, with October and November a second stretch. Lake Center runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. No made access appears within a short radius, so plan to park on a verge and walk. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. For a change of water, New City Lake is 3.4 miles distant. Treat access at Lake Center as something to verify.
