Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with a whisper of wind from the NE and pressure leaking away. Fish at Greenbriar Lake should hold close to the shallows early and the drop later. The day holds up well from night into morning. Work the productive water thoroughly. The heat is the story today; plan around it.

Look for Greenbriar Lake in Smith County, Texas. Around the bank it is open plain. It measures about 90 acres, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. Shoreline comes to about 2.0 miles, small enough to learn in a day. Few waters listed in Smith County are bigger. For supplies, Tyler is 4.6 miles out. Then Chandler, 6.5 miles, and Whitehouse, 10 miles. The boundary is close enough to be worth checking before you fish.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. Look for where the old bank line still shows under the surface. Levels move with the draw rather than the rain on water like this. Species logged nearby in open biodiversity records include channel catfish, Florida largemouth bass and largemouth bass. Local agencies keep the authoritative list for each water. The shape of Greenbriar Lake rewards a slow walk along one bank.
Expect July to average close to 83°F, with January the cold end at about 45°F. The surface stays open the year round. Heat pushes fish deep from June onwards, so start early. The cooler months are the comfortable ones to fish here. Greenbriar Lake runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
Our records carry no access rule either way. A launch point is recorded some half a mile off. The nearest car park we can see is half a mile out, so expect a walk with your gear. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Bellwood Lake at 0.8 miles is the sensible second choice. Where Greenbriar Lake is concerned, a local answer beats a written one.
