Soft grey light all day today, with flat calm through the day and pressure ticking upward. On Fabens Lake, work structure within a cast of the bank first. The useful hours run night into morning. Trust the forecast and stay out through the window. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Look for Fabens Lake in the El Paso County part of Texas. Around the bank it is dry open country. With some 26 acres of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. Compared with other Texas water on our list, it sits high. Fabens is the closest place, 2.4 miles off. The big place round here is El Paso, 27 miles distant. This one is safely inside the county line.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. Points where the flooded channel swings in are the reliable ones. Rip-rap along the wall holds fish that the open bank never does. Open occurrence data for the surrounding area lists gizzard shad, common carp, channel catfish, largemouth bass and white bass. Presence in the area does not guarantee a fish in this exact water on the day. Take Fabens Lake a stretch at a time.
The range across the year is 42°F to 82°F. Winter is a mild inconvenience here, nothing more. Heat pushes fish deep from June onwards, so start early. March through May is the strongest run, with October and November a second stretch. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Fabens Lake.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. It is recorded as intermittent, which means the basin empties in dry spells. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Rattlesnake Lake, 2.7 miles away, makes the obvious fallback. None of that is settled for Fabens Lake in what we hold.
