A mixed sky through the night, with air barely moving and the barometer heading up. Most of the action on City Lakes should come off windblown banks where food collects. The day holds up well from the day. Work the productive water thoroughly. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

City Lakes stands in Delta County, Texas. Height above sea level is 446 feet. Roughly 45 acres: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. The nearest town is Cooper, 2.5 miles away. McKinney sits 57 miles out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. Within a short drive: Jim Chapman Lake just 3.7 miles, Lake Sulphur Springs at 13 miles, Patterson Lake just 13 miles, Lake Coleman at 15 miles and Helm Lake Number 2 just 16 miles. Local rules may differ a few miles either side of here.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. Levels move with the draw rather than the rain on water like this. The old creek line under the surface is the feature worth finding. Biodiversity records within roughly six miles include Florida largemouth bass, flathead catfish, largemouth bass and blue catfish. Local agencies keep the authoritative list for each water. Fish City Lakes where the bottom changes rather than where it looks deep.
Typical July readings run about 82°F; by January the average is down near 42°F. There is no frozen season to plan round. Spring and autumn carry the fishing; summer squeezes it into the edges of the day. February into May fishes hardest as the water warms. On City Lakes the same rules apply, with local timing.
Public sources are silent on who controls the bank. Boats go in at Lone Pine Boat Ramp, roughly half a mile from the water. A carry of half a mile from the nearest parking is the price of fishing here. A pier or jetty stands half a mile away, which helps on a crowded bank. Toilets show in mapping about half a mile away. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Should this one be busy, Jim Chapman Lake is 3.7 miles off. For City Lakes in particular, ask before you travel.
