A still, cloudless night on the water, with the surface near flat and pressure sitting still. Fish at Sand Creek should hold close to pockets along the near bank. One clear peak today: the night. Cover water early, then settle where the signs are. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

You will find Sand Creek in Stanley County, South Dakota. Beyond the shoreline you have pine and birch. The nearest place of any size is Pierre, 30 miles away. Further out sit Fort Pierre (30 miles) and Eagle Butte (33 miles). Water in the same corner: Fuller Lake within 14 miles, Troy Lake roughly 19 miles, Sully Lake within 24 miles, Hayes Lake roughly 31 miles and Mundt Lake within 32 miles. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. Log jams gather bait and everything that eats it. After rain the colour clears from the surface first, so fish the edges. County-wide records name bluegill, largemouth bass and northern pike. What holds for the county may not hold for this water. Take Sand Creek a stretch at a time.
Averages here run 74°F at the top of summer and 18°F at the bottom of winter. Winter closes the water for a while, and the reopening is worth catching. Ice takes the slower stretches in winter; by early April the whole run is open again. Average temperatures cross freezing around early April in spring and again near early December in autumn. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. Sand Creek fishes to that pattern most years.
Our records carry no access rule either way. Nothing is listed nearby for parking or launching a boat. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Check locally before you travel, because a wasted drive is a long one. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. For a change of water, Fuller Lake is 14 miles distant. None of that is settled for Sand Creek in what we hold.
