A wide-open sky and strong sun today, with light air out of the SW with the glass slipping lower. Activity on Lake Sinai should centre on bays that hold the day's warmth. A long productive spell runs night into morning. Make the first hour count and build on it. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Lake Sinai is one of the Brookings County listings for South Dakota. It stands 1,732 feet above sea level. This is sizeable water at about 2.8 sq miles, and a boat opens up most of it. Shoreline length is close to 6.8 miles, and each section fishes a little differently. Volga is the closest town at 8.1 miles. Beyond it, Brookings at 14 miles and Madison at 18 miles. The county edge is within a short distance of the bank.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Brookings County records list common carp, black bullhead and green sunfish among the fish reported. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. Lake Sinai gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
Average temperature peaks around 71°F in July and bottoms out near 12°F in January. Spring and autumn carry the fishing; summer and winter test it. Winter locks it down, and early April brings it back. The open-water window runs from around early April to about late November in an average year. The shoulder weeks of the open season are the productive ones. Expect Lake Sinai to follow that timing.
Nothing in our records says who may fish here. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Mapping shows an empty shoreline: no ramp, no jetty, no marked entry. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Check whether a boat is allowed before you tow one. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. If the gate is shut, Lake Badus at 9.2 miles is the nearest alternative. For Lake Sinai, the notice at the access point is the final word.
