Hard light and clear air over the water, with almost no wind to speak of as pressure slides. Start the search at Pool D along the weed line and any gaps in it. Expect the better fishing from night into morning. Give the likely spots time before moving. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Pool D sits in Chesterfield County, out in South Carolina. It stands 299 feet above sea level. Head to Chesterfield, 14 miles away, for anything you forgot. North Hartsville lies 15 miles off, Hartsville another 16 miles. Water in the same corner: Martins Lake after 0.6 miles, 0.6 miles away is Twin Lakes, Lake Number Twelve after 0.6 miles, 1.1 miles away is Lake Bee and Lake Number Sixteen after 1.4 miles. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
No depth figure appears in our records, so the bank has to tell you. Draw-down through summer strips the margins, so follow the water out. Inflow corners move water, and moving water gathers fish. Reported across Chesterfield County: bluegill, sawcheek darter, dollar sunfish and margined madtom. The county figures include rivers and lakes alike. At Pool D the water rewards a slow, careful approach.
Seasonal averages run from 42°F in January up to 80°F in July. Cooler months are the productive ones on most of this water. March through May is the strongest run, with autumn a second stretch. November and March are the quiet, comfortable months to be out. Time your trip to Pool D by conditions rather than dates.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. A launch point is recorded some 100 yards off. Parking within 110 yards means no long carry with tackle. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. Failing this one, try Martins Lake, 0.6 miles away. For Pool D in particular, ask before you travel.
