Blue sky from bank to bank today, with barely a breath of wind and pressure easing off. Most of the action on Kirkland Pond should come off the quiet corner out of the wind. The strongest window runs from night into morning. Stay mobile and follow the activity. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

Out in Kershaw County, South Carolina, sits Kirkland Pond. Around the bank it is oak and grass. This is a pocket water of some 8 acres, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. You are 2.4 miles from Elgin. It is 19 miles to Columbia, the nearest city. Being near a boundary, it pays to know which side you are fishing.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. Built water gives depth close in, which suits a bank angler. Look for where the old bank line still shows under the surface. Public wildlife records from this area list margined madtom, redbreast sunfish, chain pickerel, striped jumprock and white sucker. Records come from public data, not from a stocking programme. Work Kirkland Pond in sections rather than trying to cover it.
The warmest month averages 80°F, the coldest about 43°F. Warm months push fish deep; cool months bring them back. Late winter and spring fish steadiest here. November and March are the quiet, comfortable months to be out. Kirkland Pond fishes to that pattern most years. A rising level usually fishes better than a falling one.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. Parking is not close: half a mile from the bank, and no nearer option is mapped. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Cooks Pond sits 1.1 miles off and takes the overflow. For Kirkland Pond, the notice at the access point is the final word.
