Poor visibility with fog on the water, with a helpful ripple pushed from the SW and the barometer holding steady. Expect most activity at Crystal Lake around the shaded margin through bright spells. If you pick one session, make it the middle of the day. Keep moving until you find them. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Out in Oconee County, South Carolina, sits Crystal Lake. It lies 1,552 feet above sea level. The water covers some 50 acres, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. On our Oconee County list it sits near the top for size. Nearest town is Walhalla, 6.1 miles off. Westminster lies 12 miles off, Seneca another 14 miles. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. Look for where the old bank line still shows under the surface. Draw-down through summer strips the margins, so follow the water out. Species logged across Oconee County include bluegill, redbreast sunfish, largemouth bass and turquoise darter. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. Crystal Lake gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
Long-term averages put July at about 76°F and January near 40°F. It fishes twelve months of the year. Spring and autumn carry the fishing; summer squeezes it into the edges of the day. April and May are the settled weeks, with October close behind. On Crystal Lake that shapes the whole year.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. You will be walking about 0.9 miles from the nearest car park. There is a fishing place at Chattooga River Fly Shop, some half a mile away. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Should this one be busy, Walhalla Reservoir is 1.7 miles off. Treat Crystal Lake as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
