Thin cloud passing over the water tonight, with a stiffish breeze from the SSW and pressure easing off. Start the search at Wincheck Pond along the warm end of the pond. Expect the better fishing from morning through afternoon. Give the likely spots time before moving. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Out in Washington County, Rhode Island, sits Wincheck Pond. The water sits 325 feet up. It runs to roughly 152 acres — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. The edge runs 2.4 miles or so, easy to work in an afternoon. On our Washington County list it sits near the top for size. Hope Valley sits 2.9 miles from here and is the nearest stop. The nearest city of size is Providence, 28 miles away. Two sets of local rules meet not far from this water.
The records we hold are silent on depth, so plan to find it yourself. A reservoir gives you a hard edge, a shelf, and not much else. Standing timber shows when the level drops, and fish sit against it. Open biodiversity records for Washington County list alewife, bluegill, striped bass and blueback herring. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. The near bank of Wincheck Pond is often the one people ignore.
The year swings from about 27°F in January to roughly 70°F in July. The year turns gently, without extremes at either end. It is not guaranteed even in a cold spell, so check yourself. The hot months push the fishing to dawn and dusk. At Wincheck Pond the season follows that pattern closely.
The access position is unclear from public sources. A car park sits roughly half a mile away. Mapping shows a jetty some half a mile off. A campsite is mapped about half a mile away, which makes an early start easier. Yawgoog Scout Reservation covers this ground, which means extra rules to check. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. Failing this one, try Long Pond, 0.7 miles away. None of that is settled for Wincheck Pond in what we hold.
