Glare on the water under a clear sky, with a faint NW drift as pressure slides. Tobyhanna Lake should fish best around the shaded margin through bright spells today. A long productive spell runs night into morning. Make the first hour count and build on it. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Set in Monroe County, Pennsylvania, this is Tobyhanna Lake. Elevation runs to 1,955 feet. At about 165 acres, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. About 3.1 miles of bank, so nothing stays unexplored for long. Size puts it in the front rank of our Monroe County list. Big Bass Lake at 5 miles is the nearest place to stop. Then Mount Pocono, 6.2 miles, and Pocono Pines, 7.3 miles. A border sits close enough to be relevant to the paperwork.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Survey and observation records for Monroe County include brown trout, brook trout, bluegill and largemouth bass. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. Work Tobyhanna Lake in sections rather than trying to cover it.
The year swings from about 21°F in January to roughly 66°F in July. Winter shuts the surface down for months. Look for the thaw near early April; the fishing lifts straight after. Ice usually gives way near early April, and forms again about mid December. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. Tobyhanna Lake fishes to that pattern most years.
We hold no note on access for this one. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Records list it as a fishing water. A launch point is recorded some half a mile off. Parking is at Parking Lot 1, some half a mile off. Overnight stays are possible half a mile away. There are toilets half a mile off. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. Millpond Number One sits 1.7 miles off and takes the overflow. Signs at Tobyhanna Lake carry more weight than any list.
