Soft grey light all day today, with barely a breath of wind with a softening glass. Minkler Lake should fish best around shallow cover and weed edges today. The day fishes best from the day. Fish confidently and change only when the bites stop. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Minkler Lake is one of the Susquehanna County waters in Pennsylvania. The surface lies 1,148 feet up. It runs to roughly 53 acres — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. A shoreline of some 1.0 miles keeps the choices simple. Size puts it in the front rank of our Susquehanna County list. The closest town, Apalachin, is 8.2 miles distant. Beyond it, Vestal at 9 miles and Endicott at 9.9 miles. A county line runs close by, so local bylaws can differ within a short drive.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. Standing timber shows when the level drops, and fish sit against it. Look for where the old bank line still shows under the surface. Open biodiversity records for Susquehanna County list brown trout, brook trout, smallmouth bass and yellow perch. County records show the wider picture rather than this one place. At Minkler Lake light and wind decide more than tackle does.
July runs about 68°F on average, January about 22°F. The year runs cold to warm and back, with clear transitions. Break-up comes around early April, and the run that follows is short and strong. Averages suggest open water from about early April through to roughly mid December. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. Minkler Lake fishes to that pattern most years.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. There is no mapped parking or launch close by, which usually means walking in. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. State or provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Carmault Lake sits 1.9 miles off and takes the overflow. Check the position at Minkler Lake before loading the car.
