Gusty conditions over the water today, with a useful W wind pushing food about and pressure easing off. The water to cover at Indian Lake is reed fringes and open pockets. Everything points to the night. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Indian Lake stands in Somerset County, Pennsylvania. It sits in pine and birch. At 505 acres this is proper open water rather than a pond. Around 8.9 miles of bank, which is a long day on foot. On our Somerset County list it sits near the top for size. Central City sits 6.3 miles from the bank. Further out sit Friedens (7.1 miles) and Berlin (9.3 miles). You are close to a county edge here; who manages the access can change within a short drive.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. Built water gives depth close in, which suits a bank angler. The old creek line under the surface is the feature worth finding. Reported across Somerset County: brown trout, walleye, brook trout, northern pike and yellow perch. It is the county picture; the agency list is water-specific. Read Indian Lake for ten minutes before the first cast goes out.
July is the warm end of the year here, averaging about 68°F, while January sits near 24°F. Winter shuts the surface down for months. Once it clears, about late March, the fishing comes on quickly. Ice usually gives way near late March, and forms again about late December. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. Plan around that when you fish Indian Lake.
The access position is unclear from public sources. A launch point is recorded some half a mile off. There is a marina half a mile away for anyone bringing a boat. A pier or jetty stands half a mile away, which helps on a crowded bank. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. If the gate is shut, Lake Stonycreek at 1 mile is the nearest alternative. None of that is settled for Indian Lake in what we hold.
