Cloud coming and going through the night, with light air out of the S and the barometer on the way down. The productive water at Ashland Reservoir will be around the wall early and the arms later. The best of it runs night into morning. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones.

Ashland Reservoir is one of the Schuylkill County waters in Pennsylvania. The surroundings are rolling bush. The water measures roughly 13 acres, so nothing here is far from anything else. For supplies, Frackville is 1.5 miles out. The big place round here is Allentown, 42 miles distant. The county line runs close by, so rules can change within a short drive.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. The arms fish better than the open middle whenever the water is up. Standing timber shows when the level drops, and fish sit against it. Schuylkill County records list brown trout, brook trout, bluegill, largemouth bass and pumpkinseed among the fish reported. The county figures include rivers and lakes alike. Ashland Reservoir responds to conditions more than to tactics.
The year swings from about 25°F in January to roughly 70°F in July. A hard winter is normal, and the thaw brings a strong few weeks. Ice-out usually falls in late March, and the weeks after it fish hardest. Ice clears near late March and comes back about late December in a typical year. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. It sets the rhythm of the year at Ashland Reservoir.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. Public mapping records no formal access here, so plan for a walk and soft ground. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. Mud Run Reservoir sits 1.4 miles off and takes the overflow. Rules at Ashland Reservoir are worth checking on the day.
