Set in Klamath County, Oregon, this is South Pass Lake. The bank is 6,516 feet above sea level. Small at around 9 acres: two anglers spread out cover most of it. It is high ground by Oregon standards. Klamath Falls lies 16 miles from the water. Eugene is the closest city, 129 miles away. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
No chart reached our records; the first cast is your sounding. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Klamath County records list rainbow trout, klamath largescale sucker, brook trout and yellow perch among the fish reported. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. On South Pass Lake that means starting tight and working out.
Between January at about 28°F and August at about 60°F, the water has a wide range to work through. The calendar is generous: something works in nearly every month. Some winters give nothing at all, so plan for open water. April and May are the settled weeks, with October close behind. At South Pass Lake the season follows that pattern closely.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. No made access appears within a short radius, so plan to park on a verge and walk. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Season dates differ by species, so read the table. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. Failing this one, try Mystic Lake, 1.4 miles away. Treat access at South Pass Lake as something to verify.
