No direct sun expected today, with the surface near flat and pressure on the rise. Sherman Reservoir should fish best around the deep edge within casting range today. The strongest window is the middle of the day. Start on the obvious water and expand from there. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

Sherman Reservoir is one of the Columbia County waters in Oregon. It sits 30 miles in from the sea. This is a tiny water, and one quiet approach covers all of it. It is a small entry by Columbia County standards. Nearest town is Scappoose, 2.1 miles off. Beyond it, Warren at 2.9 miles and Saint Helens at 6.6 miles. Two sets of local rules meet not far from this water.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Survey and observation records for Columbia County include Coho salmon, bluegill, yellow perch and largemouth bass. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. Fish Sherman Reservoir where the bottom changes rather than where it looks deep.
The year swings from about 39°F in January to roughly 65°F in August. No part of the year shuts this water. Late winter and spring fish steadiest here. The hot months push the fishing to dawn and dusk. Plan any trip to Sherman Reservoir around it. A rising level usually fishes better than a falling one.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Mapping is blank for access, so scout the approach before committing the car. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Rest Lake, 2.4 miles away, makes the obvious fallback. Treat Sherman Reservoir as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
