A grey, even sky over the water, with dead-still conditions and the barometer on the way down. On Lake Oswego, work the first drop-off and weed lines first. Everything points to the middle of the day. Give the likely spots time before moving. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Look for Lake Oswego in the Clackamas County part of Oregon. The surface lies 112 feet up. The water covers around 432 acres, which puts most of it out of reach from the bank. The margin runs to about 5.2 miles in total. On our Clackamas County list it sits near the top for size. Lake Oswego at 1.3 miles is the nearest place to stop. It is 8.1 miles to Portland, the nearest city. The boundary is close enough to be worth checking before you fish.
No chart reached our records; the first cast is your sounding. Look for where the old bank line still shows under the surface. The arms fish better than the open middle whenever the water is up. County-wide records name Coho salmon, rainbow trout, Chinook salmon and cutthroat trout. Protected fish appear in the records for this area, so treat the list as information, not an invitation. On Lake Oswego that means starting tight and working out.
Averages move between 40°F in December and 67°F in July. Winter is a mild inconvenience here, nothing more. Heat pushes fish deep from June onwards, so start early. Spring and autumn carry the year; summer squeezes it into the ends of the day. At Lake Oswego the season follows that pattern closely.
Public sources are silent on who controls the bank. Parking is not close: half a mile from the bank, and no nearer option is mapped. Fishing from a pier is possible half a mile away. A toilet block sits half a mile away. South Shore Natural Area covers this ground, which means extra rules to check. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. The nearest alternative is River Forest Lake, 1.9 miles out. Rules at Lake Oswego are worth checking on the day.
